Hawaii - Big Island
|
In February, 2010 we took a weekend trip to Hawai'i, the "Big Island" to check out the volcanic activity, waterfalls, hieroglyphs and the Observatory. We walked old; hardened lava flows, played in black sand, watched the waves hit at the Southern Most Point of the USA, enjoyed the view from Bubba Gump’s Restaurant and hiked trails through sulfur. We took pictures of the glow from the active volcano, and we could feel the heat as we stood there mesmerized by the power of the earth, barely noticing the gentle rain that kept us cool.
The Kilauea Volcano goes a little more active now and then and when the winds are headed this way we find ourselves in a cloud of volcanic rainfall and "vog" (volcanic fog). |
